Bait by M Mabie

Not your run of the mill love story and that is not always a bad thing!

The story is harsh, it is tough and it needs to be.

The characters evoke those sort of emotions, but if you are at all like me, you will find that you are awash with feelings that are as conflicting as they are emotional.

If you are looking for a beautifully romantic love story then this is not the book for you, if you are looking for a love story that shows just how hard it is at times to get ahead then you are in love but be warned you may need a couple of bites at the cherry because this is not a book to be devoured in one sitting, some bits will force you to lay your kindle down and to give yourself a breather.

This is a story that everyone has to work at and it takes a clever author to instil that much reader participation from me, I thought I knew what I was getting in some respects but in reality I didn’t have a clue.

The author baited her hook and reeled me in!

When the book started I was taken by surprise because I was faced with Blake and I must admit that the author had given me a character that was not initially easy to either like or understand.

I was in two minds about her but after time, I felt as if she had grown on me.That is not to say that I liked her 100%, she really had me at odds with myself, I was still struggling internally because she really did get on my nerves much of the time.

But on the other hand there was Casey, well there is nothing else to say other than the fact that I loved him, honestly he was completely swoon worthy, and he stole the show for me.

But the story, well it was a whole lot of what if’s and could have been’s.

I’m not a huge fan of love triangles, I am firmly entrenched in the fact that moving on means just that, you move on… you don’t dilly dally around playing with others emotions.

But people are far from perfect and both Casey and Blake are to blame for the situation they’re in, all it would have taken would have been for one of them to man up and stand their ground.

Blake’s partner Grant didn’t deserve what they did to him, the lies that they tricked him with and the disregard that they treated him and his feeling with, but I honestly believe that there is no denying your heart, there is only dealing with the situation your hearts desires are likely to create and neither of them took the time or showed the inclination they should have to work out a way to handle the devastation that there actions were going to cause.

Blake should have walked away from Grant when she felt her attraction to Casey passing the point of acceptability and if she couldn’t then Casey should have.

Love is a selfish emotion and complicated situations leave room for suspect decisions, but it also leaves too much room for unnecessary hurt and pain.

But does fate have retribution in store for this pair or are other gremlins dabbling in what should effectively be their happy ever after?

I look forward to the next book and the continuation of their story.
