Fervent by Gemma James
This is a series that is difficult to put into words because finding the right ones are almost out of reach – it is simply sublime and it has just got a little bit better if that is even possible!
From the first chapter your heart will be in your mouth and you will be teetering on the edge of your seat because the author has your heart wrapped in the palm of her hand and she is squeezing!!
This is darker than the two books that have come before it and while the beginning will leave you breathless the rest will leave you in awe.
The book is primarily a fight to salvage your sanity, a fight to preserve what you have and the enlightenment on just how much one person is prepared to undertake to save the person they love most in the world.
It is a full on assault on everything you think you understand and a masterclass on what pain can do to a person and what they will do to rid themselves of that feeling.
I don’t think I can find the words to tell you adequately what the book is about without divulging any spoilers and I really don’t want to spoil it for you because if you haven’t started the series then you really should and if you haven’t started this book in particular then I know you will curse me if I let slip any of the simply enthralling story that you really do deserve to read for yourself.
But what I can tell you is that Fervent follows straight on from the end of the last book, so you don’t miss a second of the action. It continues with the intensity and mystery.
I defy you to guess what the hell is going on because damn I was dumbfounded by the path that the author took us down – smart cookie! And I was left slack jawed by some of the turns that befell both Rafe and Alex – hell they had it tough.
An intense yet positively addictive series that demand absolute devotion to each and every word and rewards you with a story that while not easy is worth the effort.
