Cruel Water
by Freya Barker
I run the full range of emotion while I read this book, but I finished feeling emotionally satisfied.
This is a story so touching, that it is impossible to not to feel the full impact of a story that is written with what I can only say is complete reverence.
Viv and Isaac are characters that you want to spend time with, indulge and adore but I have to say that there are some situations that may push some of the more sensitive buttons that you might actually have thought possible, I didn’t find it too much of an issue but it would be remise of me not to mention that there are triggers in this book.
I want Viv as a bff, I am in awe of a woman that has survived more than I think I ever could. She was such a beautiful soul, so strong and so determined. I had my heart in my mouth for periods of her story and those emotions were quickly accompanied a steady stream of tears that trickled their way down my face, but it wasn’t all doom and gloom, she made me smile.
But in perfect balance to Viv was Isaac, and he was the safety net that Viv not only needed but never knew she needed. He was such an amazing man, his commitment to her was unquestionable and it is impossible was beautiful to read.
The story was really engaging, although I believe that there will be a variety of feelings and emotions drawn from the story depending on your own particular past. I like a story that has its foundation in the here and now and draws deeply on reality.
Life doesn’t hold them back, it drives them, they battle through everything that is thrown at them and by doing that they are came out of the situations that they were experiencing richer for what they had been through and as a reader so will you.
There is so much going on in this that it is very easy to get carried away, before you know it time will have gotten the better of you.
