Running Back's Baby

There was no uncertainty about what and where this story was going, but as an author I hadn’t read before, I was more interested in how she was going to get the characters to their final destination and not lose me along the way and I am happy to report that she did just that, I enjoyed the story. The characters were engaging and while of the path they were on was one that could easily be described as well worn, I couldn’t help but be intrigued as to how their decisions were going to affect them both.
Dan is back in town on the thanksgiving break and bumps into Chloe, and while he didn’t really have much to do with her when they were in high school, things are a tad different now because now, she consumes him.
Back then he was all about his game, the football protégé that had everything you would expect the high school football star to have, never ending popularity and a plethora of girls falling over themselves to be with him. Chloe on the other hand was the consummate book worm and student, she went out of her way to keep herself to herself, of course she knew who Dan was but considering their paths were never likely to cross, her admiration and affection were something she was able to keep to herself, a secret crush almost.
But now things are different, now she has his attention and they have to decide what to do with the attraction between the two of them. They know their time is limited after all Dan is due back to college after the break and Chloe’s life is structured around caring for her father, so a quick fling it is then, and when the holidays are over, they would be too, or so it would seem but was it?
Because with Dan gone and no contact between the two of them, not even a proper goodbye, Chloe makes a decision that when it is eventually revealed could very well have devastating consequences.
It takes a long time for the two of them to eventually get back in touch, and in the meantime they have both moved on, Chloe has made a success of her life since that glorious Thanksgiving and Dan is now doing what he had always intended, he is playing professional football but when Dan discovers Chloe’s secret how will he react?
Can they find a way to make the situation work or is it too painful? Has too much passed them by?
I think what I liked the most about the book was the fact that the author didn’t dwell too much on the early years, she concentrated on their here and now, their attempt to forge a proper relationship, second time around.
They had so much to work through that I was praying that they could see their way through to get to a happy ever after. The story set a blistering pace and I have to admit that it was that pace that had me frantically turning the pages, desperate to see where they were going to go next and if they would be together.
Well written, this is one that you really shouldn’t miss.
